UAM Foresters To Hold Field Day February 7 (1/30/09)

MONTICELLO, AR — Forestry students at the University of Arkansas at Monticello will put their physical forestry skills on display at the annual Forestry Club Field Day competition on Saturday, February 7.
            
The all-day competition is scheduled to being at 9 a.m. at Forestry Park behind Maxwell Hall. Field Day is the culmination of a week-long competition in technical and physical forestry skills to determine UAM’s representatives at the Association of Southern Forestry Clubs Conclave.
            
This year’s Conclave will be hosted by Alabama A&M in Huntsville March 12-14. UAM has won Conclave 28 times in the event’s 52-year history. Schools scheduled to compete include UAM, the University of Georgia, Stephen F. Austin State University, Clemson, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Louisiana State, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, the University of Florida, the University of Kentucky, and Alabama A&M.
            
Field Day events include archery (9:00), axe and knife throw (9:30), log rolling (10:30), pole felling (11:00), log chopping (11:30), crosscut sawing (1:00), bow sawing (2:30), pole climbing (3:00), chain throw (3:30), and log birling (4:00).
